Gravity Hook HD is a good game

Maybe buy it if you’ve got an iPhone or iPad.

It may seem overly punishing or slow the first dozen or so times you play it, but once you begin to understand just how much of the game is really focused on momentum, it becomes an addiction. The gravity bombs represent one of the most straightforward risk/reward systems I’ve ever seen that, when combined with the momentum physics and your ability to bounce off the walls, can lead to some legitimate edge-of-your-seat moments. At least twice, I’ve found myself gritting my teeth and raising my eyebrows as my little dude came within an inch of being obliterated by an orange bomb, only to bounce off a wall and swing past it by a few pixels.

Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin: Ico

Ash wrote this one entirely on her own, which is why it’s so ra ra feminism ra. I hassled her to play Ico for about a month, and once she did she found herself infuriated at the game. As much as I loved the game the first time I played it several years ago, I find it difficult to argue with her now.

That said, Shadow of the Colossus is still tits.

HAWPcast: Villains eating sandwiches

Leave him alone, lady. He just wants to watch television.

We recorded a new HAWPcast, and you can watch it here.

There are SPOILERS for Inception and Shutter Island.  If you’re worried about that sort of thing, just skip to the twenty minute mark and you’ll be fine. Probably. Unless I’ve forgotten something.

Which I likely have.

Either way, this episode is about Inception and great fictional villains.  Hope you enjoy it.

I have a personal bog now whoop (I’m assuming you meant personal BLOG? -Anthony)

If any of you were interested in getting some more detailed updates on Must Come Down, or are curious about what I’m going to be doing in Japan, you can check out my personal blog. You know, if you want.

Mission #292 is Complete

A while ago, I detailed my intention to do a particular thing to Ashley Davis, at a particular time, to a particular song.

Thanks to this late wedding present by Manic Maverick, I no longer need to.

(I think the way he drew my mouth really sells it.)

For Everyone that Donated to Must Come Down! Plz Read

Hey everyone! So, there’s about 25 hours to go on our Kickstarter Page which means we’re pretty much done, and we’ve met our goal! Thank you so so so so so so SOO much to everyone that donated to the project. I’ve always been proud of HAWP, but I’m doubly proud because we have such awesome, supportive fans. I hope that all of you keep doing that voodoo that you do so well. Now then! Please hit the jump if you donated!

Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin: Gears of War

I think Ash’s performance in this latest HAWP is probably one of her best. Though using the word “performance” in reference to a video like this, in any capacity, is probably a mistake.

Anyway, hope you dig the new episode.

DONNA just got accepted in an L.A. film festival!

Gerry Maravilla’s short film DONNA has just been accepted into the Action on Film festival in Los Angeles! For all you lovely people that bought a DONNA DVD, you directly helped this happen so you are the best. Read more about this awesomeness at Gerry’s blog. If you’re in the area and want to come see it on the Big Skreen, there’s a link to purchase tickets at Gerry’s blog. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to be there because I have to fly out to Salt Lake City on the 26th for Must Come Down, but you can hang out with Gerry and be best budz forever. Also, if you haven’t seen DONNA yet and you want to – I am in it whoop whoop – email Gerry at gmaravilla21@gmail.com to check it out. Thanks again everyone for being the best ever.

Oh, hey! A new Once Upon a Pixel!

In case you don’t know, Once Upon a Pixel is HAWP’s spinoff series that retells known videogame stories in interesting and wacky ways. This week’s episode is basically a retelling of the Prinny mythos from Disgaea, except framed as a Public Service Announcement.

You should watch it.

It’s pretty cute.

The HAWP crew will be at MAGfest 9

Boosh!

The site doesn’t mention that Ashley Davis, creator and star of Once Upon a Pixel, will be there as well (probably because I didn’t, you know, tell them that).

Neither Ash, Blavis nor I have ever actually been to MAGfest, so the experience should be fun. If nothing else, I’ll get to meet the guy who voices Duke Nukem and make him grunt “balls of steel” for the eight thousandth time in a row.
