Archives For the Category "Hey Ash Whatcha Playin"
Ash wrote this one entirely on her own, which is why it’s so ra ra feminism ra. I hassled her to play Ico for about a month, and once she did she found herself infuriated at the game. As much as I loved the game the first time I played it several years ago, I find it difficult to argue with her now.
That said, Shadow of the Colossus is still tits.

I think Ash’s performance in this latest HAWP is probably one of her best. Though using the word “performance” in reference to a video like this, in any capacity, is probably a mistake.
Anyway, hope you dig the new episode.

Boosh!
The site doesn’t mention that Ashley Davis, creator and star of Once Upon a Pixel, will be there as well (probably because I didn’t, you know, tell them that).
Neither Ash, Blavis nor I have ever actually been to MAGfest, so the experience should be fun. If nothing else, I’ll get to meet the guy who voices Duke Nukem and make him grunt “balls of steel” for the eight thousandth time in a row.

I honestly dunno how chazzhay managed to make this so quickly — doesn’t it take, like, a lot of work to get two Sims to love each other enough to get married?
Either way, check it out. It’s pretty kickass.

I’m really happy with this week’s episode.
This is the first of many episodes shot and edited by Justin Yngelmo (Vamp from the MGS4 finale), who is taking over much of production while I’m at Gearbox working on Hot New Gamez™.
The awesomeness (if indeed you feel it awesome) of the ending is thanks entirely to him. I would have never thought to cut the scene like that — partially because I’ve become such a creature of habit that I don’t try anything new, and partially because I’m too lazy to look for music unless I absolutely have to — but, to me, it really works. Davis’ incredible cackling doesn’t hurt, either.

As Ellis might say, it’s not really a ha-ha funny sort of episode, but more of a makes-you-think kinda thing. Weirdly, it feels a bit like a Once Upon a Pixel episode, even though Ash and I came up with it. Things will get even weirder when Davis posts her very HAWP-esque episode of her own show.
I can’t thank the fan artists enough (even those whose work didn’t make it into the final vid) for their work. I received a lot of really awesome stuff, all of which should be entered in every games-related art exhibit around.
Also: Manic Maverick, send me an email. You haven’t responded to my private emails so I assume I’ve got the wrong address or something.

New episode is up, and it doubles as a Mother’s Day present because I ain’t buying that woman shit.
This is another one of those episodes that I’ve been sitting on forever — wanted to make sure it was actually around Mother’s Day when we released it. Anyway, hope you enjoy it, even though its connection to videogames is tangential at best.

In the very near future, I will be leaving Destructoid and going to work at Gearbox Software as a full-time writer.
A few people have asked me how this will affect HAWP and my other side-stuff (Rev Rants, etc), so I’ll answer all of that stuff after the jump of this post.

Long story short: we wanna make a HAWP episode full of fanart. The HAWP episode will basically be a recitation of a Maya Angelou-esque poem about Bullet Bill.
We’d like y’all to make drawings that fit with the poem, that will be displayed onscreen during the recitation. You can post links to those drawings below, in the comments (along with how you’d like to be credited should your piece get chosen). In a month from now (May 25th), I or Justin will edit the episode and put in my/our favorite pieces.
You can read the poem after the jump.

Boosh.
If you own Sleep is Death (which you should) and want to use the resources Ashley Davis and I made in your own stories, you can download them here. Just copy the resourceCache folder into SiD’s “importOldCache” folder, and you should be good to go.
Seriously, though, you should buy Sleep is Death. Even if you only tell (or are told) one or two stories with it, it’s still an incredible experience that you simply can’t get from any other game, or any other sort of collaborative storytelling.
