The premise for this week’s episode came entirely from a conversation Ash and I had with Grant Cushman (Raiden from the MGS4 episode) and some of our other friends at a party.
The conversation went on for at least a half-hour, and we never came to a conclusion. I’m not sure if I want this episode to result in the world reaching some sort of consensus, or if I want the confusion and uncertainty to continue for all eternity on a much larger scale.
The latter, probably. Probably the latter.

ITS A FUCKING BROTH
So, upon seeing that there were 18 comments on the heyash main page, I told myself I’d eat an entire tootsie roll thing dipped in melted, coffee-flavoured Haagen-Dazs if the first comment WASN’T one of the answers to the unanswerable question. You just saved me from diabetes, Mr. Chainsawface the Predictable. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
It’s a cold porridge.
I think beverage is the only one that makes any real sense. Broth is right out, it is something else boiled with water. However beverage and sauce both make sense in their own ways… I don’t know….
Exactly. A broth has to be boiled to obtain the concentrated flavours of the ingredients. If it’s not boiled, it’s just water (Or in this case milk) with shit in it.
On your podcast you spoke a bit about how you use the music at the end as a sudden punchline to the episode. That it should be a musical sting as it cuts to the credits.
It might just be me, but playing the song that was supposed to be the sting over the episode made it lose that effect.
My immediate thought was “why not the bit from Jeopardy while they think?” which was instantly countered with “Because it is owned by someone, you fool! That is the point of getting the music made!”
I have no idea who the other guy in my head is. But he is a dick.
My vote is for broth. The connotation I have for broth is soup (noodles and vegetables and whatnot floating in a pool of fluid), while sauce is a pasta dish (noodles and vegetables and whatnot covered a/o coated with a thicker fluid), and beverage is… well, a glass of milk. Most cereals that I know of would function most like a soup given the above definitions, hence my vote for broth.
I think it depends on what stage the cereal is in. For instance, at the beginning, it most resembles a sauce, because you pour sauce over stuff like pasta, not only to give it more flavor, but it soften it up a bit. After a few minutes, the cereal has gone limp and has been soaking in the milk, much like broth. And, of course, after you’ve eaten all the cereal, you drink the milk like a beverage.
Or maybe not.
Beverage: Any potable liquid, esp. one other than water.
Broth: Water that has been boiled with meat, fish, vegetables, or barley.
Sauce: A flavorful seasoning or relish served as an accompaniment to food, especially a liquid dressing or topping for food.
Going by these definitions, I would have to go with sauce, although beverage is still a possibility.
See, to me, milk has always been an ingredient.
But even I knew what a broth was, and kind of worry about the cooking abilities of whoever suggested it for cereal.
Want some milk for your cheerios? Chicken or beef?
Ideal episode. Funny and SHORT and look the comments are filling up with people weighing in. Well done.
Hey Ash & Anthony!
You are two of the most beautiful people on the planet/web!
And you’re not even showing your private parts.
And I’m not even a superfreak stimulating myself while browsing your website.(so…)
All the best, keep on filming, i’m laughing my blls off!
yours,
Niels
p.s. the answer is soup
No matter how many times I see Ash’s head explode, I still find it hilarious.
Also, it’s a beverage. Pouring milk on cereal is just removing a step from eating dry cereal and drinking milk (and yes, I do eat dry cereal on occasion).
Keep up the good work!
Pour milk over some Peanut Butter Captain Crunch and let it marinate for 15 minutes at room temperature.
Drain “milk” into glass and refrigerate for 20 minutes. Discard soggy cereal. And by discard I mean eat.
Mix vodka, Kahlua and peanut-buttery cow juice over crushed ice and stir.
Serve with a straw.
Hey Amigos, Watcha’ Drinkin!?!
Hey what is the link to the music? I can’t find it
Instant meme. Thanks, now I have to deal with all the “EPIC MINDFUCK” threads by 13yr olds who pretend they made up the question.
I’m digging the shorter episodes. The timing is excellent. Well done.

the first song in the end is The Massacre by FantomenK, but the last one i cant find it at dbsoundworks.com
halp!
great episode, as the realization of the inanswerable query poured over your faces i lol’d my ass off and got weird looks from the office crew, keep it up guys
I’d call it a lubricant.
Dear Anthony and Ashly Burch,
please change that pixelated font you are using because some of the characters in it are simply not letters. A charitable person in a good disposition in a forgiving phase of his or her life could conceivably admit that they might at some point have been inspired by letters the designer may have once have seen or more likely dream of themselves.
It makes the credits slightly short of completely unusable when you write them in a font that renders them unreadable (at least I know a separate entity was involved in the production).
The DBsoundworks song is The Last level you will Ever Play.
Enjoy!
I’m not sure it’s any of those three answers… as has been said, a broth has a specific culinary definition and milk on cereal doesn’t fit it. It’s no longer a beverage unless you like delicious chunks in your beverages… I guess sauce is close but I’d say “seasoning” is the closest I can come. It’s something you put on your food before, during, or after cooking to alter the flavor and/or texture of it.
