We need music for our end credits.

147604-hawp9409

So, long story short: lawyers are now cracking down on all of GameTrailers’ unlicensed music, which means I’ve gotta re-edit all of the previous HAWP episodes and get rid of the music I don’t have the rights to (which is to say, uh, all of it).

This isn’t a huge problem, as most of the problematic music is used during the end credits. Basically, if you or anyone else you know is really awesome at composing music, we’re on the lookout for a cool end credits theme for Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin’.

If you’re at all interested in composing a theme for us, just respond below with a link to the song in question. Anything goes — if you wanna do chiptunes, do chiptunes. If you wanna go orchestral, go orchestral. Totally up to you. I can’t promise any money if we end up choosing your song, but we’ll give you a credit, and you’ll at least have the satisfaction of knowing that your song will conclude nearly every episode of HAWP from here until doomsday. Or until we decide to switch themes.

I make video game hip hop. Check out “My Parents Favorite Music”. I’d be glad to make a song or two for you guys if you like, let me know.

I highly recommend soliciting over at the http://8bitcollective.com/

  4. Totally not Jonathon Coulton (I'm totally not him Fo' Shizzle) says:

I recommend using Jonathan Coulton. Seriously. That shit will give you totally +10 Legit nerd cred, like Scrolling LED signs, legit.

Pretty much if you ask nicely, and follow theses points (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/) then you can use them freely. I don’t know what song you could do, but pretty much anyone would bring infinite +1 times more awesome to your already infinitely awesome series.

  5. Vargas says:

Does that mean the song that plays during the Martha/Papa Burch will be cut out? =/
Or that song that plays briefly during Anthony’s gay thought?

I mean, I can think of some moments in the HAWP series where the music made the jokes even funnier.

  6. Josh says:

Iji has a chipmusik cover of Hero by Captain Goodnight that might work for you. I’m not sure, though. Can’t tell what sound you’re really looking for.

  7. sam says:

does this mean the HAWP DVD will get edited too? Is there still time to get an unedited copy? :O

  8. Jon says:

Well, why not? I submit a made-in-15-minutes piece of music, which intentionally features a series of notes made to sound like someone saying “HEY-ASH-WHAT-CHA-PLAYING?”

How’s that going to work for Arkham Asylum (Seal) and Lips?

  10. Theoneguywhoknowsnothing says:

Maybe you should dispute it with using the following,

“Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for “fair use” for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use.”

This is how alot of people get around copyright issues regarding audio on youtube. Might be worth a shot.

Here’s something in a retro-gamer style with a couple of different moods.

You could chop it up as required, if not for the closing credits then you might find use for elements of it elsewhere. It goes from creepy to crude to pretty and back.

    • Anthony says:

Holy shit, dude. I dunno if that’d necessarily fit as credits music, but that’s definitely going on the season 2 DVD in some context.

      • Danny G. says:

        Glad that you enjoyed it!
We really just did it as a love letter to you guys. The credits thing was just a coincidence.

        • Xander says:

It’s certainly a little long for episode credits music, in the sense that you have to hear the whole thing to really get the full awesomeness of it. It’d work really well for a series credits roll though I reckon, or just for well.. anything really. It’s pretty much brilliant.

  15. Jon says:

Um, I’ve got into the spirit of things a bit, so I’ll be uploading a few more pieces here as time goes by: http://soundcloud.com/whatsoccuring/sets/hawptastic

  16. H-Fox says:

My favorite till now is the song of Danny G. It’s kickin ass! But if you just need it for the end credits, the song without vocals would be awesome! And cut out the Zelda-part, cos of the ass-ramin lawyers (such NICE people they are…)

  17. Jake Kirkendall says:

Blood sucking lawyers. :^/ Anyway, I’m glad I picked up the DVD for season one. I hope none of the edits will alter the previous episodes too much.

  23. Kad says:

I don’t have anything to contribute, but I’m really eager to hear the song decided on.

  24. ChrnosMiko says:

I agree with Danny G. on this one. The song would fit you guys very well! The middle guitar riffs would be awesome for the ending! :)

  25. I’m no professional or anything, but I’ve been making music for a while. I did One Fatty One Choice a few weeks ago in honour of HAWP, so I figured I’d submit a shortened version (as well as a new song). Posted these on the forums as well:

  29. MisterFox says:

So you mentioned that especially episodes that rely entirely on a song might be taken down, namely the second L4D-one with the Boomer. Would it be legal if, for example, I would sing the song myself in a version that is different from its original but still recognizable (think jazz-version?)

If so, that might solve one or two problems a little, right? ’cause hell, I wouldn’t want these episodes to be taken down – it’s already bad enough that almost every episode is getting sliced up now.

  42. fx says:

Feel free to use all chiptunes by “crome” for your videos as you see fit. I could package them all up for you, but there’s a bunch over at chiptune.com and you’ll find all of them in the SAC artpacks (check http://ftp.superiorart.org)

Most recent one, because he just linked it to me: http://crome.untergrund.net/innocense_lost.xm

However, if you have a real idea of what you might want to have and it’s somewhere in either the chiptune or the heavy metal world, I can probably persuade him into creating a real track just for HAWP.

(He’s my younger brother, so whatever is his, is actually mine, because I’m bigger.)

  43. Steve says:

Why don’t you tell Game Trailers to get an ASCAP license, then all your episodes should be okay.

  44. Teddy says:

    Hey Burch sibs,

Just saw this post, wanted to offer up some stuff from my old band Kaslo. Everything’s up for free online. “Poopface” would probably be the most appropriate for your guys’ stuff (it’s on the OHIO EP), here are the links:
