On Monday night, I’m going to be giving a talk at UC Berkeley for this class. I was originally going to title the talk “Player, Character,” but that seemed really fucking pretentious, so it doesn’t really have a title anymore. Either way, it’s about character development in story-based videogames (a la Mass Effect, or Uncharted). The talk is scheduled to start at 6pm, in 123 Wheeler. I assume you can’t actually show up unless you’re actually UC Berkeley student, but I figured I’d mention it on the off chance.
On Friday the 11th, I’m going to be part of the Artgame Sessions panel at GDC. The specifics are here. I’ll be giving a ten minute talk about Far Cry 2, which should surprise absolutely nobody who listens to Podtoid.
I’ll post the slides and notes for both talks on this site sometime in the middle of March.

While I live right next to Berkeley and just across the water from Frisco, I shant be seeing either one of these. I blame money and Berkeley City College. Maybe I can peek through the window on the UC Berkeley campus and smear my face against the glass creepily. Yes, that should do it. I’ll make sure to eat before I do it so I can leave a memento when I leave.
Does anyone know if this is closed to non-Berk students? If it isn’t I am definitely skipping my two most abhorred classes to be there.

I sent an email to the people running this class asking whether or not non-berkeley students can attend. If I get a response I’ll post it here.
I love be condescended to, yet I live in Nebraska, probably won’t make it but if I could I would definitely be there.
Damnit, why didn’t i study harder in high school so i could get into Berkeley, take this class this specific semester and have the chance to listen to you talk down to me. sigh. God, i hope Marek gets a response. That would be so cool to attend that class.
So I got a response from the class, looks like it’s fine for non-Berkeley students to attend. They “would love to have any interested parties attend our guest lectures” and “welcome auditors”, so if you’re interested in an entry-level game design theory kinda class and live in the area, I’d ask them about it! I live a bit too far away to attend regularly but I am totes going to go to see Anthony
